Before buying the engine oil for your diesel engine the consumer must know the product specifications, manufacturers of diesel and gasoline engines always mention the Engine oil grading structure in service manual and some times on engines also. These grading specifications may differ from region by region because the climate conditions of Asia is dissimilar than Europe and Africa climate is also different from America so the user of reciprocal engines should be well aware of general details of quality standardized engine oil.

There are two widely terms used, for Gasoline engine S type of engine oil is recommended because S stands for Spark Ignition and for Diesel engine C type of engine oil is feasible because C stands for Compression where diesel engines also called Compression Engines. Gradings

Nowadays there are single grade and multi grade oils available. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) established a special coding standard to balance the viscosity levels according to different regions. In a engine oil container like API you may also find grading of SAE in form of numeric characters, the engineers ordered the viscosity levels from low to high preference starting from 0, 5, 10, 20 and more following the prominence of this numerals another similar kind of ending numeral also followed but the difference between both is introduction of W. The word W denotes winter so it means that first numeral is applicable for hot conditions and other is for Winter. The upward trend of higher numbers gives more improved viscosity.
